Keeping Busy: Activities for Older Adults
General Note
A great activity for people with dementia or Alzheimer's who always liked word puzzles but now find the standard puzzles too challenging. Also great for people looking for a new and fun pastime.
Description
Restricted to Kelley cardholders only. There are lots of word search books out there, in a range of difficulties and they are a great activity for people able to do them. The problem is that as the person with dementia or Alzheimer’s abilities decline they can become frustrated and may even lose interest in doing them. Our word search puzzles are specially designed to be appropriate for people with dementia. The package includes 24 puzzles, eight at each of the three levels of difficulty, along with a wet erase marker. It includes everything you need for a quick and fun activity that doesn’t require a lot of supervision. The puzzles in this package use words from the topics "Measure, Sports, Trees and Musical", with 2 puzzles from each topic at each level of difficulty. They are challenging, but simplified in that no words run right to left, diagonally or bottom to top. The words are familiar and the letters are large and easy to read. There are three levels of difficulty allowing you to find the puzzles that the person can do on their own, changing the level as the person’s abilities change. The included instructions describe ways to help people complete the puzzles on their own if they are having difficulties. Because the puzzles are laminated, they can be wiped clean and re-used.
Local note
Restricted to Salem cardholders only.
