Containing a famous story about a longboat shaped like a dragon, The Dragon and the Raven includes the fictionalized adventures of King Alfred the Great. Beginning in 871, King Alfred ruled on the throne of Wessex. Shortly into his gaining the throne, Alfred faced an invasion by the Danes. In a series of battles, Alfred defended his kingdom from the Vikings until Wessex was the only English land not occupied by the group.
